Blockout Fabrics
Blockout is the term that we use to describe a fabric that does not allow light to pass through it. Where cellular fabric is concerned this reduction is achieved by way of a foil coating on the inside of each individual cell. Not only does is create a barrier to light passage it also vastly increases the thermal properties of fabric even more.
Within the window coverings trade the work 'blackout' is generally the go to descriptor of this type of fabric character, but we believe that this is not correct as the term blackout suggests that the all light is eliminate whereas the Smooth system itself does not offer total eclipse of light. A small amount of light infiltration will be seen around the perimeter of the blind, only 'blackout cassette@ blinds are capable of such an achievement, a totally different kind of product.
Customers should expect around 95% light reduction once the blinds are closed with considerable thermal and acoustic gains plus of course precise shade and vision controls with the inherent multi zone operation. Another important point to note with blackout fabric is that their is quite a distinct change in face fabric shade over the equivalent dimout fabric colour. This is due to the aluminium foil backing present in each individual cell which darkens down the shade of the front facing fabric, rendering a much deeper hue.
