Smooth Fit Blinds

Smooth Fit Blinds

Having manufactured every type of window covering for the past 35+ years we know exactly what the Customer requires. Whether that is a local Customer who requires a home measure and fit service, an ecommerce Customer on one of our many niche product specific sites wishing to DIY or one of our hundreds of trade partners throughout the UK. We are always aware of what is either available and more to the point required and sought after.

Smooth Fit Blinds offers solution to the various and individual restrictions that related products have - many of which we also manufacture or at least retail - where they provide answers in set cases but do not deliver a universal instance of fix. Following is a breakdown of why Smooth trumps the various related products that you will find during your research and presents the reasoning why we feel that we have all bases covered in a single solution.

Alternatives & Their Limitations

Shading systems that are aimed at providing a similar function to Smooth are widely available, as disclosed we ourselves manufacture or at least have access to all of them. Such as Perfect Fit, Intu, Clic, Click Fit & Cruze to name a few.
They all have certain restrictions and drawbacks that limits their choice overall on the wider marketplace. That is not to say that when a Customers' individual and unique requirements are taken into account, they can come then into their own and provide the appropriate solution.
These limitations that come under constant question are 'Type Of Window Application', 'Size Parameters & Restrictions', 'Robustness Of Use' and 'Extent of Shading Offered' - all of which we can box tick and overcome any negatives with the Smooth Blind system that caters for all applications within one product.
Smooth fits any type of glazed window

Type Of Window Application

Many of the alternative systems rely on the fact that the receiving window has an internally beaded gasket in order for brackets to squeeze behind and hold the functioning blind unit in place. This means that, generally, these invasive bracket fit products require an internally beaded uPVC window in order to gain a fixing point.
We find that many Customers are not aware of what the term 'internally beaded' refers to, why should they, and this fact holds them back from attempting a potential DIY saving.
Smooth fixing is achieved by way of a speciality, non invasive, gel tape that bonds to any glazed surface within any type and material of enclosing window or door frame extrusion i.e. uPVC, Aluminium, Composite and Wooden.
So. simply put, if you have glass in your window you are good to go!
All Smooth requires is an area of available glass

Size Parameters & Restrictions

Pretty well all of the market alternatives to Smooth have end fit tolerance requirements and permitted physical size limits for both the resulting blind unit itself or the receiving door/window restrictions of acceptance.
Some systems require certain available bead gasket depths, ironmongery clearance and even window bead shapes for different styles of side channel. Then, of course, the blind units themselves all have varying width/drop minimums and maximums to work within in order for them to remain functional.
Our Smooth system does not even have a protruding handle to have to be concerned about - which makes it especially ideal for bi-fold, patio and those doors that open directly onto an internal wall.
Production tolerances are as follows (all visible glass size);
Minimum Width 230mm - Maximum Width 1800mm or 1500mm if drop exceeds 1800mm
Minimum Drop 200mm - Maximum Drop 2200mm or 1800mm if width exceeds 1500mm
Smooth can be utilised on skylight roof windows

Robustness Of Use

Durability is paramount with any functional window blind. Smooth is hardy with aluminium runner rails to each side and an 'all in one' aluminium handle at the top and bottom of the operating blind.
Where plastic components are used they are not open to friction from the cords (usually the point of most wear and tear over time) instead we have a metal friction rod to prevent this from occurring. Retaining runners are made of nylon which allows a smooth glide action via the solid operating bar.
At the top of the side channels the terminal ends include a magnetic cap and catch so that gravity does not take hold to create a light gap when the blind is otherwise in operation. Together with the bottom bar movement this also creates what is known as a multi zone operation where either top and/or bottom bars can rest anywhere along the drop of the complete blind.
Fabrics are obviously solar shade therefore UV resistant. They have differing qualities to match the individual Customers shading requirements. One big bonus with the Smooth system is that we can provide replacement fabric should a problem occur around the home or in the case of redecoration and colour change. Simply order a new fabric quoting the original order number and we can send a new 'blind' to clip onto the existing channels.
For those Customers now questioning how easy it is to remove the side channels, the answer is simple (video of how to do so alonside fitting video). Any residual gel adhesive tape can be removed with readily available solutions such a alcohol wipes, adhesive remover sprays etc.
Smooth Blinds Extent of Shading Achieved

Extent of Shading Achieved

Semi-sheer, translucent, dimout or blockout fabrics are available to form part of the overall Smooth system. Which one depends on the purpose of use and extent to which light shade and ingress needs to be controlled.
Smooth itself has two inbuilt barriers in the side channels and the operating handles. With the side channels they touch the window perimeter edges and overlap the blind fabric by approximately 21mm, this creates a backing strip so that side light and viewing is contained beyond that of the fabric choice. Likewise the operating top and bottom handles snugly fit over the top and bottom cord blocks and offer light resistance here as well.
We would point out to all Customers that you will always get a certain amount of perimeter light, a chink of light, that is visible. Even when blockout fabric is chosen. Smooth is not a complete blackout blind, but there again no window blind system other than cassette blinds that are fitted to the recess and sealed, will give 100% blackout.
